Few are the comic characters that can boast of having a coin, and almost none that can be used as a form of payment. Today June 7, one of the most universal Gauls, Asterix, already has its own currency, which although in principle is not intended to pay with it, it can be done perfectly. It is a commemorative 2 euro coin that celebrates the 60th Anniversary of Asterix.
For sixty years, Asterix has been a true icon of French culture. This character, created in 1959 by the screenwriter René Goscinny and the cartoonist Albert Uderzo, embodies the Frenchman with his intelligence and sharpness through the Gallic identity. Apart from his artistic line, his painting of contemporary society with humor has earned Asterix a great international reputation for many years. Since its inception, it has been translated into all the languages of the European Union with great success. For example, Asterix's reputation is as high in Germany as it is in France. It is also well known in the United Kingdom, the Netherlands, Spain, Portugal, Italy and Scandinavia for many years. Apart from being an icon of France, Asterix has become a true figure of the ninth art.
The motif represents Asterix in profile with its famous winged helmet. It is surrounded by laurels and Roman inscriptions that refer to his sixties. In the upper part there is the legend "ASTERIX" and, below, the indication of the issuing country "RF" (initials of the French Republic). The year of issue «2019» is inscribed in the lower part, together with the French mint mark and the mint mark.

As I mentioned in his day, if this coin were to circulate and thousands of people would find it in the exchange, they would fix it for the first time in a coin. Also many children would want to have theirs, something that could have attracted a crowd of new collectors, thus encouraging the arrival of new wisdom to numismatics. A real pity this missed opportunity.
