The American Bufallo investment currency is one of the youngest bullion coins that are issued on a regular basis in the world. The American Buffalo Proof coins feature the mint mark "W" to the left of the portrait, just below the largest pen. This indicates that the coin was minted at the United States Mint of West Point. This same coin in its base quality is also minted in West Point, but it does not carry a mint mark.
The reverse of the coin features a buffalo that looks to the left and stands on a rock or mound. His presence is omnipresent and powerful, since his head and tail seem to press against the edges of the coin. According to USMint, the American Buffalo "recalls the pioneering spirit of the westward expansion of the nation."
