The National Bank of the Republic of Kazakhstan issued today April 26, 2019 new circulation coins with the classic nominal values of 1, 2, 5, 10, 20, 50 and 100 tenge, with changes in their texts.
Those who know the series of currencies of circulation of Kazakhstan issued until today, at first glance would say that it is the same series that has been minted since 1997, except the one of 100 tenge that was coined since 2002.
The difference is in the texts that go from Cyrillic to Latin. After 80 years using Cyrillic, the former president of the country, Nursultan Nazarbayev, decided in 2017 that his national language be written in the Latin alphabet, like most Turkic languages. In 2025 the goal is for all official documents, books or newspapers to be edited in Latin alphabet. Today has come the turn to the coins.
The already old coins, which you see on these lines, keep their validity and share all the characteristics in terms of weight, thickness, diameter and composition of metals.
