The Ufficio Filatelico e Numismatico of San Marino today officially announced the data referring to the issuance of its first coin of 2 euros commemorative 2019, dedicated as the one of Italy to the «500 Anniversary of the death of Leonardo da Vinci »
The first thing that draws attention, according to the data provided, is that we are facing the 2 euro commemorative coin with the lowest circulation of all those issued to date by San Marino, the 54,150 pieces that will be issued on April 4 the they become the most exclusive.
The obverse of the 2 euro coin that commemorates the 500th anniversary of the death of Leonardo da Vinci represents the face of the kneeling angel while holding a garment of Jesus, in a detail of the work "Baptism of Christ." The painting was completed in 1475 in the studio of the Italian Renaissance painter Andrea del Verrocchio and, in general, was attributed to him and his pupil Leonardo da Vinci. The painting is in the Uffizi Gallery in Florence. The exceptional mastery of Leonardo stands out in the articulated posture of the angel's body and in the extraordinary naturalness of the curtains of the blue mantle, in the landscape of the river and in the figure of Christ.
