The ninth coin of the series "Fauna in cultural monuments of Ukraine" dedicated to the Horse is issued on February 26 by the Bank of Ukraine. This piece and all of the series have facials of 5 grivnas and are minted in 925 sterling silver.
On the obverse of this piece, and of all of the series, it represents in gold a monument, piece or historical engraving dedicated to the animal in question, always located or discovered in Ukraine. On the back we see a characteristic image of the animal.
Horse
The horse is dedicated to the image present in the cultural monuments of Kievan Rus, one of the most brilliant pages in the history of the country's culture, which is an integral part of the world cultural heritage. In the territory of modern Ukraine, for thousands of years, tribes and peoples created a distinctive culture, inherited from ancient generations. The beliefs and religions showed a respectful attitude of people towards nature and in particular towards animals.
On the obverse of the coin is a small emblem of the state of Ukraine, the inscription UKRAINE, under which is the year of issue of the coin, 2019, and the face value, 5 Grivnas; in the center there is a golden image of a fragment of the relief in stone located in Kiev dating from the eleventh century, representing the martyr saint Eustache Plakids. In the background (on the right) we see the image of Saint George the Victorious, an icon of the second half of the 15th century, both riding horses.
On the back of the coin there is a horse head on the left, below which is the vertical inscription HORSE and a fragment, on the right, of a slate plate of the eleventh century, representing the holy riders who lance and trample a snake.
