Dedicated to the Christmas and New Year holidays, a period distinguished by its special ritual, the richness of folklore and ethnographic originality. The New Year is not just the eve of the new 12 months, but one of the oldest and most mysterious parties, whose expectations and celebrations are related to the world of good fairy tales and magic. In the universal traditional culture, this is an event that has been celebrated for centuries in all countries and continents. The Christmas and New Year celebrations in Ukraine have a long and special history, a rich variety of attributes and traditions preserved over the years.
Under this theme, the Bank of Ukraine issued on 17 December a coin of 5 grivnas coined on an alloy of alpaca or German silver, in which some notes of color on the back intended to convey the festive atmosphere of the Christmas season.
The obverse of the coin has the name of the issuing country "UKRAINE", below which is shown a small emblem of the state of Ukraine, as the main reason in the center three angels are represented; to the left is the year of issue of the currency, 2018, in the lower part the face value, 5 Grivnas; all on a stylized image of snowflakes and stars. The Mint logo of the National Bank of Ukraine is shown on the right.
On the back of the coin there is a colored Christmas star, one of the Ukrainian national symbols associated with these dates as ancient symbols of the sun, fire and heat; Inscriptions referring to Christmas and the New Year can be read around the star.
