It is known that the European Commission and the countries belonging to the Eurozone do not look favorably on commemorative 2 euro coins that have warlike motives or connotations. The states that want to issue a coin dedicated to some event that had had a war in between, should spin very thin so that they do not throw down the project, focusing on the end of it or the final consequence of it. This year, on February 19, Estonia issued a coin to commemorate the Centennial of its Independence, in which the design of the coin represented a logo filled with doves, as we all know, used as a symbol of peace.
The independence of Estonia, like so many others, had a war in between. After declaring its independence, Estonia was forced to fight for it in the War of Independence against the Soviet and German forces. During this war, Estonia secured its borders and, on February 2, 1920, signed the Tartu Peace Treaty with Soviet Russia.
A few days ago the Bank of Estonia issued a coincard commemorating its independence, plus the regular 2 euros of the current year, to honor the army that participated in the contest, on November 27, the 100th anniversary of the beginning of the War of Independence. "The War of Independence was the most important war in the history of Estonia. In memory of this war and the troops that participated in it, Eesti Pank (Bank of Estonia) decided to issue a coincard with a special design this spring, "said Ardo Hansson, president of Eesti Pank. With what we already have the paradox that a commemorative 2 euro coin with very pacifist motives, ends up being used as a tribute to a war and those who participated in it.

The design of the two-euro coin is based on the official logo for the Estonian Centenary which is celebrated in 2018, this can be read as the numbers 18 or 100. This way of arranging the numbers joins the founding year of the state 18 (1918) and the centenary of this (100). The designers are Ionel Lehari and Meelis Opmann of the design agency OÜ, which is also the body behind the official logo for the centenary of Estonia. The minting has been in charge of the Lithuanian Mint.
The curious fact for this currency is its volume of emission, which amounts, adding all its presentations to the figure of 1,317,800 pieces, the same as the number of inhabitants with which the country has.
