No other animal inspires such a mixture of fear and fascination as the shark. This is not only due to their sharp teeth, dead eyes and torpedo-like structure, which gives them the appearance of a cold-blooded killer, but also to the fact that their natural environment is one in which humans feel particularly vulnerable. The seventh coin in the series Creatures Colorful has the most fearsome shark of all: the Great White Shark.
As its rows of teeth grow behind the first row, when a tooth breaks a new tooth takes its place, a shark can count up to 30,000 teeth throughout its life. The olfactory center of a shark can occupy up to a third of its brain mass and its eyes are ten times more sensitive to light than human eyes, but the fin of a shark is its most iconic feature. The mere sight of the iconic dorsal end of a shark rising above the surface of the water is enough to terrify the heart of anyone who has the misfortune to be near. Of course, few sharks are the ones that devour man, but humans are a danger to sharks: 2 million sharks are killed every year around the world,
This coin and all of the series have as peculiarity that they have been colored with special inks that make the silhouette of the animal represented in the piece shine in the dark. The Austrian Mint officially issues this piece on June 6th.
The coin represents a white shark in the depths of the sea with a hammerhead shark in the background. The composition is completed with a sunken ship next to corals and other life forms present in the oceans and the text "Hai" (Shark).
On the reverse of the coin the shark is represented among the silhouettes of the other eleven animals that appear in the series of Colorful Creatures.
For this series, a face value of 3 euros is used, which has never before been used by the Austrian Mint, and is also legal currency in the country. For three years one of these coins is being issued, approximately one every three months.
With a maximum circulation of 50,000 pieces, the coins are presented in special packages of ten coins, designed for distributors and individually for collectors.
