The third coin in the series "Empress Maria Theresa of Austria" presents the only ruling woman of the Habsburg Empire wearing a widow's veil. The Empress Maria Theresa put on the veil after the sudden death of her beloved husband, Francis I, in 1765. The reverse of the coin shows an allegorical representation of Clemence in which a female figure offers her hand to a fallen soldier. The portrait of Maria Teresa with a veil on the obverse of the coin comes from a relief by Anton Guillemard (1747-1812).
