Inside the series "Personalities of Ukraine" the Bank of Ukraine issued on June 20 a coin with facial of 2 hryven minted on an alpaca alloy, dedicated to Josyf Slipyj, Ukrainian priest, archbishop of the Greek-Catholic Church of Ukraine and Cardinal of the Catholic Church. Prisoner of the Soviet regime, was finally released due to pressure from the Holy See and the United States to participate in the Second Vatican Council. His life inspired the writer Morris West for the plot of his novel The Sandals of the Fisherman.

The reverse of the coin shows an image of Josyf Slipyj, his name in Ukrainian, Йосип Сліпий, below this the years in which he lived 1892 -1984 and among these his shield. To the left and right of the character you can read texts that marked his life "Pray, Work, Fight ..."

On the obverse is depicted on the left the Roman cathedral (built with the help of Josyf Slipyj), on the right the cathedral of St. George of Lvov, which rests its ashes. As is customary in all Ukrainian currencies, the national coat of arms of Ukraine, the year of issue, the face value and the logo of the Mint of the National Bank of Ukraine are also represented.
