The Bank of Estonia (Eesti Pank) has provided new information and images on the issuance of the commemorative 2017 EUR 2 coin issued under the name of "Road to the Independence of Estonia", a reference to the events that preceded independence Of Estonia in 1918.

The design of the two-euro commemorative coin dedicated to the events that preceded the independence of Estonia shows oak leaves, bare oak branches and the sinuous trunk of an oak tree. The oak symbolizes Estonia's winding road to independence, the bare branches refer to the year 1917, and the leaves symbolize strength, performance and longevity. The oak leaves are also part of the coat of arms of the Republic of Estonia.

The first notable figure announced is the issue date for the currency, next Monday June 26, in the amount we already knew, 1.5 million pieces. The second is that it will have 10,000 coincards, put up for sale on the day of its issue in the online store of the Bank of Estonia for the price of 7 euros. Add to all this that the coin designed by Jaan Meristo, after winning a contest convened by the bank itself, has been coined by the Mint of Lithuania.

The Centennial of the Republic of Estonia will be in 2018, but the state was not founded in a single day. Estonia gained autonomy after the February revolution in Russia in 1917, when the province of Estonia was created. On 1 July 1917 the first representative parliament of the Estonian people, known as Maapäev, was formed. It was declared the highest organ of power in Estonia on November 15, 1917. It was a major step towards statehood.
