Temples of Hagar Qim

These beautiful temples declared World Heritage by Unesco are located on a hilltop in the south of the island of Malta. It is a large architectural complex formed by a main temple and three megalithic structures located not far from it.

They were built during the 3600 and 3200 BC. C. The main temple is formed by an exterior entrance that connects with six large rooms. The entire building is protected by an exterior wall made of large blocks of stone located vertically. This type of construction is very characteristic in the Maltese megalithic works: others that have been found follow more or less this same structure. It is worth mentioning that one of these walls contains the largest Maltese megalith, which measures about 5 meters and weighs about 57 tons.

They were excavated for the first time in 1839, year in which the necessary investigations were made to understand of which era it dated its construction.
