As usual in Canada, since 2004, every year Olympic Games are held, whether winter or summer, emit 1 coin circulating dollar which they call Lucky Looney, as lucky coin for Canadian athletes participating in the competition. After that in 2012 and 2014 the coin will feature the same design, this year has been renovated.

Composition: three layers of steel - plated brass
Weight: 6.27 g
Diameter: 26.5 mm


Designed by Canadian artist Derek Wicks, the coin shows a common loon on water, with arched body and wings ready to take flight. It is a symbolic salute to the Olympians and Paralympians from Canada that reach new goals in Rio 2016. The Canadian pride is also evident in leaf stylized maple appears in the background, while the logos of the Olympic teams and Paralympic Canada and the words "Lucky Loonie / DOLLAR PORTE - BONHEUR (Lucky Dollar)" are at the bottom of the piece.
 



The Royal Canadian Mint is now selling the complete issue (1,300,000) 52,000 rolls of 25 coins at a price of 49.95 Canadian dollars they will be shipped from July 5 only within the Canadian territory.

The story of Lucky Looney began with the Winter Olympics 2002 in Salt Lake City, when a dollar was deposited under the ice of the track where competitions are disputed.
