In 2012 the Monnaie de Paris began a series of collector coins dedicated to the great French ships over the centuries. Five are the years that has lasted this series, which concludes in this 2016, in which each year is paying homage to a sailing ship, a warship and an ocean liner.

I will present the second of this year dedicated to the aircraft carrier Charles de Gaulle, which will have three versions for the same design, with facial 10 euros minted in silver and the other two 50 euros one in silver and one in gold. The expected date of issuance is on 9 May.

The obverse a representation of the aircraft carrier Charles de Gaulle seen from below which includes several elements that denote their activities, such as satellite dishes and contour aircraft multirole combat type Rafale Marina, which is one of the leading board shown the aircraft carrier. At the bottom of the coin shows the name of the warship.

The reverse of the coin shows a common composition at five coins dedicated to warships of this collection: the famous blue collar uniforms of the French navy, crowned by the name of the series Les Grands Navires Français, the nominal value part appears above the silhouettes of five warships that make up the series, while an arc of links in a chain part the year of issue.

Aircraft carrier Charles de Gaulle

The Charles de Gaulle is the only French aircraft carrier in service, and the flagship of the Marine Nationale. It is the tenth French aircraft carrier, and its first surface vessel powered by nuclear energy, as well as the first non-American nuclear aircraft carrier.

It is named in honor of Charles de Gaulle, former French army general, chief of the Free French Forces during World War II and President.

The ship uses an aerial complement of Dassault Rafale M and E-2C Hawkeye. It is the second largest ship of Europe after the aircraft carrier Admiral Kuznetsov and possibly most powerful aircraft carrier on the continent.
