This time without any rumor that precedes, as in previous years, we have been surprised by a new 2-euro coin commemorative Monaco for this 2016, alluding to the 150th anniversary of the founding of Montecarlo by Carlos III, and with a circulation of which we are accustomed, 15,000 coins, along with issuance date announced, on June 1.
The reason shown at right, an image of Prince Charles III as part of the portrait by François-Auguste Biard currently preserved in the Throne Room of the Prince's Palace of Monaco, and left a sketch of what would become the city of MONTECARLO in 1866. at the top, in a line that arches adjusted core to the outer edge of the coin, appears the name of the issuing country "MONACO", flanked by the mintmark of France (cornucopia) and that of its director, Yves Sampo (Pentagon with GAMP-YS initials). At the bottom, in the same way but in reverse, the legend "FONDE CHARLES III MONTE CARLO" separated on each side by a triangle with the year of commemoration "1866" and "2016" appears.

Founder Charles III of Monaco
Charles III, Prince of Monaco or Carlos III Grimaldi, born in Paris on December 8, 1818, was reigning prince of Monaco from 20 June 1856 until his death on 10 September 1889.En 1858, he founded the Order of San Carlos whose collar is reproduced surrounding the coat of arms of the principality. In order to prepare the official recognition of the independence of Monaco by France, in 1861 the towns of Menton and rocabruna, constituting more than 80 percent of the then Monegasque territory and much of the agricultural wealth of the same, are officially sold France for 30,000 francs.
In 1866, he advised by his mother, and thanks to the dowry of his wife, plus new taxes and the rise of casino created in 1856, founded the city in his honor Montecarlo is called in Italian means "Monte Carlos" . In 1885, his effigy figure on the first issue of postage stamps from Monaco, replacing seals of France. Carlos III inaugurated for his small state, prosperity always palpable, besides putting Monaco fashionable among European high society of the time. At his death he was succeeded by his son Alberto I.
