After a hiatus of 17 years, caused by the outbreak of World War II and after overcoming the devastation of this, in 1956 the Opera Ball in Vienna was restored to its original place.The Opera Ball had been held there since 1877 when Emperor Franz Joseph I gave his consent to a 'soiree' at the Opera House.
To mark the 60th anniversary of the restoration of the Opera Ball in Vienna the Austrian Mint issued a silver coin with a face of 20 euros, which was first applied to the color of their currencies.
One of the highlights of the Opera Ball in Vienna is the opening dance including Demoiselles and the Youth Committee. This is shown on the reverse of the coin, while the obverse of the coin depicts a man holding a red raspberry bouquet with a young man kissing his other hand. Adding color bring flowers to life and gives a touch of magic to this dazzling memory of a truly dazzling event.

For one night, the building is adorned opera and becomes a grand ballroom. Despite some changes, the event retains traditional elements, making for decades in one of the biggest events in Europe.
