The Austrian Mint coin issuance begins 2016 with a facial of 5 euros dedicated to one of the most traditional events of the first day of the year, the New Year's Concert of the Vienna Philharmonic Orchestra, held every year since the golden room called "Musikverein" to an estimated 1,000 million people in 90 countries potential audience. 

An image of a magnificent concert with level of detail, common to all Austrian coins is shown on the reverse of the coin. A trio of cellists is depicted in the foreground, with a trio of double bass players right behind them. The impressive organ and elaborately decorated Golden Hall of the Musikverein can also be seen in the background. On the left, the director of the orchestra is represented in relief, his leadership and his hands up, while Neujahrs-konzert (New Year Concert) is written vertically.

The obverse of the coin shows nine sides the coats of arms of the nine federal provinces of Austria.

The coin with face of 5 euros, as all emitting Austria this value, will be available in two versions, the face value of copper and silver, presented in the portfolio, at prices ranging from 14 to 15 € in the online shop of the Austrian Mint.

New Year Concert

The New Year's concert of the Vienna Philharmonic Orchestra (German: Das Neujahrskonzert der Wiener Philharmoniker) is a show that takes place every year on the morning of January 1 in Vienna, Austria. It is transmitted throughout the world from the Golden Hall called "Musikverein" to an estimated 1,000 million people in 90 countries potential audience.

This concert, which had its origins in 1940, but suffered a suspension was in 1945 due to the deterioration of the structure airstrikes allied forces.

The music is mostly of the Strauss family (Johann Strauss (father), Johann Strauss (son), Josef Strauss and Eduard Strauss) and his contemporaries.
The flowers that decorate the concert hall "Musikverein" is an annual gift the city of San Remo, Liguria, Italy.

The concert always ends with several encores after the main program (tips that are not included in the program). The musicians then collectively wish a happy New Year, and ends with the Blue Danube waltz by Johann Strauss (son) followed by the Radetzky March.
During this last work, the audience clapping to the beat and the director gets to direct, during automatically, instead of the orchestra.
