One of the novelties presented this year by the Vatican in terms of currency issues, is a piece that can be purchased at face value, we will pay for it the same amount shown in the piece, yes, if we set aside the expenses of Shipping and we opt for your purchase without the official case where we can keep it, although this does not cost much the price because we talk about 4, 50 euros.

The copper coin, metal on which it is minted, initiates a new series from which one currency will be issued per year. The series is called "Art and Faith" and begins with the one broadcast on March 5 under the name "Piety."

The Art and Faith alliance has always characterized art and is distinguished in countless works guarded in the Vatican City, some of which will be the subject of this new cycle of numismatic emissions. Precisely through art, the popes in the course of the centuries have disseminated and carried out their spiritual mission. It was John Paul II who argued that art, beyond its most typically religious expressions, when authentic, has an intimate affinity with the world of faith, so that, even in the conditions of greater separation of culture from Church, precisely art continues to be a kind of bridge to the religious experience ”(Letter of Pope John Paul II to the artists, 1999).

The coin that inaugurates this new series does it with a sculptural work of unquestionable and extraordinary beauty, La Piedad, made by the twenty-four-year-old Miguel Angel Buonarroti, between 1498 and 1499, commissioned by the French cardinal Juan de Bilhères, Carlos's ambassador VIII before the court of Pope Alexander VI, and destined for the chapel of Santa Petronila, where the cardinal's funeral monument would probably have been. Here, Art and Faith, merge completely reaching an expressive and emotional force of rare intensity, without minimally affecting the delicacy and sweetness of the composition that remains one of the most admired sculptural works of all time.
