Three years after the enthusiastic and anxious coin collectors even queued at the gates of the Austrian Mint, or in front of their computer to acquire the ones that were put up for sale online, the series of coins Colorful Creatures comes to an end with the issuance of the twelfth and last coin that shines in the dark, and which features the Crayfish.

Freshwater relatives of the lobster, although much larger, which they closely resemble, live only in uncontaminated streams, rivers and lakes, since they cannot tolerate contaminated water sources. For this reason, although it was once abundant throughout the continent, the European crayfish, also known as the noble crayfish, has seen its number decrease. In addition, it is susceptible to the plague of crayfish carried by the invasive crayfish of North America, so it is listed as a vulnerable species on the IUCN Red List (International Union for Conservation of Nature). A traditional food source, particularly in Scandinavia, the European crayfish is considered the best edible crayfish.

This coin and all of the series have the peculiarity that they have been colored with special inks that make the silhouette of the animal represented in the piece shine in the dark. The Austrian Mint officially issues the piece on September 11.

On the reverse side of the coin the Crayfish is represented among the silhouettes of the other eleven animals that appear in the series of Colorful Creatures. While a crayfish printed in color is shown on the obverse of the coin that shines in the dark.

For this series, a face value of 3 euros has been used that has never been used before by the Austrian Mint, it is also legal tender in the country. One of these currencies has been issued for three years, approximately one every three months.

With a maximum circulation of 50,000 pieces, in each of the pieces that make up the series, the coins are presented in special packages of ten coins, designed for distributors and individually for collectors.

Super Dinosaurs: The new series of the Austrian Mint

"Super Dinosaurs" is the name of the new series that debuts on November 6 with the issuance of the coin dedicated to the "Spinosaurus aegyptiacus", the largest carnivorous dinosaur known so far. News with the previous series, few. It will have the same special inks that will make it glow in the dark, it will have the same facial, the same measures and very similar designs both front and back. The roll will be somewhat higher, 65,000 of each, compared to 50,000 of its predecessor.
