The first circumnavigation journey, initiated by the Portuguese navigator Fernando de Magallanes is one of the greatest achievements in the history of mankind, in which the relationship between the Atlantic and Pacific Oceans was revealed and it was shown that the world was actually spherical .

To remember this great epic, made from 1519 to 1522, the Portuguese Mint has created a series of four collector coins signed by Luis Filipe Abreu, making the most important event of each year of that expedition to be represented in each coin.

The first coin of this series, entitled "Item 1519", is allusive to the beginning of the trip, showing on the obverse a representation of the fleet of five ships commanded by Fernão de Magalhães, which is represented on the reverse side of the coin.
In the following years the coins "Strait 1520", "Mactan 1521" and "Conclusion 1522" will be coined.

The obverse of the coin shows in its central field a representation of the fleet of ships commanded by Ferdinand Magellan, symbolizing the departure of the circumnavigation journey to the earth, from 1519 to 1522. Surrounding the entire design are the legends "2019 Portugal" , "Circum Navegação" and "1519-1522". In the lower left part, the face value "7.5 €" is shown. 

On the back, in the central field the portrait of Ferdinand Magellan is shown, on his left a ship is represented. in the upper semicircle appears the legend "Fernão.de.Magalhães"; In the lower semicircle, on the right "Item 1519", on the left the mint mark and the name of the author "INCM - LFABREU".

This coin with facial of 7.5 euros can be obtained in three versions with the same design. One minted in silver with Proof quality, another in gold in the same quality and the one that can be obtained at its face value, in silver of 500.
