On December 10, 2017, the first communication satellite with which Algeria has been put into orbit was put into orbit. It is a huge platform of 5.2 tons of weight called Alcomsat-1. With an estimated operational life of 15 years, the purpose of the new satellite is to provide strategic communications of broadband, voice, data and television to the country. Dedicated to this milestone for the nation, the Bank of Algeria has put into circulation a bimetálica coin of 100 dinars (0.74 euro).

The design of the coin shows the Algerian telecommunication satellite ALCOMSAT-1 in orbit on Earth, in which we see the part of Africa where with a major relief the part corresponding to Algeria stands out. There is also Europe, a part of Asia and a small portion of South America. On the right side, in numbers, the location of the satellite in space appears. The crown of the coin shows 10 stars at the top and another 10 at the bottom separated by two logos of the Bank of Algeria.

The reverse of the coin shows in large numbers the face value of the coin, 100 dinars.
