Cuentos de Caballeros is a fascinating series of five coins in which we travel back in time to a bygone era that was notorious for being bloody and brutal. But the Middle Ages were also the age of chivalry, when the highborn warriors, known as knights, went into battle on horseback dressed in full armor. The chivalry code was a combination of warrior spirit, piety, nobility and gallantry. Maximiliano I, to whom the first coin of the series is dedicated, embodies these values. In 2019 marks the 500th anniversary of the death of the Holy Roman Emperor and Archduke of Austria.

The obverse of the coin presents a portrait of Maximilian I on the left, in which the Holy Roman Emperor holds a spear. On the right, his coat of arms in the hands of a heraldic lion.

Maximiliano was born in 1459, at the end of the Middle Ages. In 1477, he married María de Borgoña, which made him not only a Duke of Burgundy, but also a Sovereign of the Order of Knights of the Golden Fleece. With a membership limited to only 30, this exclusive club was effectively the " crème de la crème "of the noble elite. However, not everything that involved Maximilian was noble and chivalrous. Under the pressure of the kingdom states, as well as for his own material benefit, he accepted the expulsion of the Jews from the Austrian provinces of Styria and Carinthia. However, Maximilian was also something of a "renaissance man" who could speak seven languages and passionately supported the fine arts.

The reverse shows a scene from a jousting tournament, in which a knight on a horse rides at full gallop while the seated spectators watch from a dais.

The five pieces that make up the collection have facials of 10 euros, as in all those issued by the Austrian mint with this face value, they adapt to all pockets, depending on the metal and the quality in which we want to acquire the coin, we can do from the € 10 that costs copper, which by the way looks as good, or better, than silver.
