Opinii: despre nesimțirea unei instituții publice - Biblioteca Digitală a Bucureştilor

Monnaie de Paris, the French mint, and the jewelry company Boucheron are cooperating on very limited edition coins that double as jewelry.

Designing coins is a craft. So is designing jewelry. While it has been argued in the past that the line separating some medallic art from sculpture may be nebulous, the line between what constitutes a coin and what should be called jewelry has not been addressed. The jewelry manufacturer Boucheron and Monnaie de Paris, the French Mint, plan to address this latter issue through an unusual partnership between the two organizations.

According to the Boucheron jewelry company website, “Innovation, creativity and craftsmanship have been at the core of Boucheron’s creations for 160 years.” Frédéric Boucheron founded the business in 1858. Since that time, it has been managed by four generations of the Boucheron family. The business has since been acquired by Kering, a luxury group whose holdings include Gucci and Saint Laurent.

Monnaie de Paris has been striking coins since the year 864. In modern history, the mint has produced fine art medallions in addition to coins.

The mint invited some of France’s best craftsmen to design limited edition coins marketed to collectors in 2010 through its “Excellence a la Francaise” program. Baccarat, Cartier, Manufacture Nationale de Sèvres, and Van Cleef & Arpels collaborated with the mint through this program.

The Paris minting facility was renovated between 2011 and 2014. In 2014, the mint launched a program of contemporary art exhibitions.

Today, the French mint has state-of-the-art enameling, engraving, and jewelry workshops in which more than 300 craftsmen produce gold coins, medallions, and official decorations. Circulation coinage is struck at a facility in Pessac, while artistic work is produced in Paris.

The Nov. 5, 2018, issue of Art World magazine described the partnership between the mint and the jeweler as calling for “their respective craftsmen to marry their ancestral traditions to produce a collection of limited-edition coins – part jewelry, part numismatic collectible – to appeal to connoisseurs of high craftsmanship.”

Monnaie de Paris Marketing and Development Director Claude Giffin said, “The monnaie identified Boucheron as one of the most innovative of French jewelers. Given that collector coins evoke celebrations, we decided that it would be fantastic for the 2018 edition of Excellence à la Française to coincide with Boucheron’s 160th anniversary.”

Boucheron Creative Director Claire Choisne added, “We were thrilled with the opportunity to work with artisans who share our vision of creativity and who, like us, use their technical knowhow to bring life to new objects that are born out of dreams. The monnaie identified Boucheron as one of the most innovative of French jewelers.”

There may still be a perceptual disagreement. Art World wrote, “A major perennial challenge for the mint when collaborating with a jeweler is to translate the design of a three-dimensional piece of jewelry onto a two-dimensional coin.”

Collectors might observe that coins may be reasonably flat, but they are three dimensional nonetheless.

The new coin-jewelry collection will be highlighted by a massive 2.2 pound octagonal 5,000 euro meant to resemble the shape of Place Vendôme and that of an emerald-cut stone. The coin will be set with a Boucheron motif diamond-studded ivy leaf and will be produced in an 11-piece edition.

Other coins will include gold and silver pieces with face values between 10 euro and 500 euro. The 200-euro gold and 10-euro silver coins are shaped like an ivy leaf.

Choisne said, “We had dreamed of coins that would not be round, but more like a piece of jewelry with a realistic design to give them more life. That produced the ivy-leaf coin in high relief.”

French Mint Creative Director and Principal Engraver Joaquim Jimenez added, “We agreed that the coins would represent ivy growing out of Boucheron’s maison and onto the Place Vendôme, virtually invading the square and its paved surface. For the main coin, we engraved the piece and Boucheron produced the diamond-set leaf, which was then fitted onto the coin. It was a work of high precision and true collaboration.”

The United States Mint issues a series of coins on January 24, all with the same design, to commemorate the 50th anniversary of the Apollo 11 manned space mission that supposed astronauts Armstrong and Aldrin were the first to treading the moon on July 20, 1969.

Up to eight different possibilities are to get one of these coins if we add the different finishes, metals and presentations. In gold, silver or cupronickel and from $ 25.95 up to a price not yet determined of those minted in gold, which will vary according to their price. These curved coins, as if they were a bowl, have aroused great enthusiasm among collectors around the world and especially among Americans.

The reverse side of the coin shows a close-up of the famous "Buzz Aldrin on the Moon" photograph, taken on July 20, 1969, showing what was reflected in the visor of the helmet of astronaut Buzz Aldrin. The reflection in the helmet of Buzz Aldrin shows the astronaut Neil Armstrong, the flag of the United States and the module of lunar landing. The inscriptions are "UNITED STATES OF AMERICA", "the face value", according to the currency and "E PLURIBUS UNUM" (Of many, one).

Of all the photographs that were taken after the arrival of Apollo 11 to the Moon, this is possibly one of the most remembered. In it you can see Neil Armstrong on the surface of our satellite while his helmet reflects the image of the lunar module Eagle and Buzz Aldrin at the time he made the snapshot.

The design of the obverse features the inscriptions "MERCURY", "GEMINI" and "APOLLO", separated by phases of the Moon, and a footprint on the lunar surface, which together represent the efforts of the United States space program that led to the first manned landing of the moon. The additional inscriptions are "2019", "IN GOD WE TRUST" (In God we trust) "and" LIBERTY ".

Below we see an image of one of the gold coins where its curved shape is much better appreciated.

Completing the information, I leave a link to the US Mint store in the United States, where you can see all the currencies and their prices for the United States. Point out that they do not ship to Europe.

Continuing with the spatial theme this year, the coin belonging to the Native American Dolllar series issued by the United States Mint features Mary Golda Ross, the first Native American female engineer. One of his most important works was developed in the 50s and 60s, focusing on the study of satellite orbits and the project of Aegna space rockets, an essential component that helped put man in space through the Apollo space program. Ross related many of his successes to the importance of his tribe, the Cherokee, his great-grandfather being a leader of these, gave equal education to boys and girls, and the rich heritage of the Cherokee.

The reverse side of the Native American dollar 2019 represents the renowned engineer Mary Golda Ross doing calculations on a sheet. Behind it, on a background of stars, an Atlas-Agena rocket is launched into space with an equation inscribed in the cloud of smoke. In the upper right, an astronaut represents the "Native Americans" who have traveled to space, including John Herrington, first to be enrolled in the space program. The inscriptions "UNITED STATES OF AMERICA" and the face value "$ 1" complete the design work of Emily Damstra that has been recorded by Joseph Menna.

The obverse, common to all this series of US dollar coins, shows Sacagawea and his son Jean Baptiste. This indigenous woman of the Shoshone tribe accompanied and guided one of the most important reconnaissance expeditions of the US territory. The face of the coin reproduces the face of a shoshone woman of the present called Randy'L He-dow Teton, since there is no image of Sacagawea.

Characteristics of the currency

Face value: 1 dollar
Composition: Copper, Nickel and Zinc
Diameter: 26.5 mm
Weight: 8.1 g

The expected issue date for the currency is next February 13.

Hunedoara), 1962, Sec. I d. Chr.

I d. Chr.

As usual every month, I have prepared a selection of images of the numismatic issues that have been put on sale by the Royal Canadian Mint during this month of January 2019.

It is surprising to check the number of different coins that this Mint can present each month, but most importantly, the vast majority of these are of great beauty, being pieces that can have a prominent place in any collection.

If you want to expand information on any of these currencies, I leave you link to the online store of the Royal Canadian in its news section.

On 13th February Münzen Österreich will issue the third and final coin of the "Vienna Psychotherapy Schools" series dedicated to Viktor Frankl (1905-1997), world-renowned neurologist and psychiatrist, founder of logotherapy and existential analysis. He wrote 32 books and was awarded with 29 honorary doctorates; His work is full of superlatives. Like no other, he understood how to make the meaning of life tangible.

A characteristic perhaps incidental, although enlightening, of the famous psychiatrist: the fact that he suffered vertigo did not prevent him from practicing climbing and obtaining a pilot's license at 67 years of age.

He also reached the top with his teaching. As an alternative to deep psychology, he coined the term "height psychology"; It focuses on the mental resources of the patient.

From 1942 to 1945 he was imprisoned in four concentration camps: in Theresienstadt, Auschwitz and two satellite camps in Dachau. His parents, his brother and his first wife were killed in the concentration camps. Not long after his release, Frankl wrote an autobiographical book, The Man in Search of Meaning , which described the prisoner's life of a concentration camp from the perspective of a psychiatrist. In this work he explains that, even in the most extreme conditions of dehumanization and suffering, the individual can find a reason to live, based on his spiritual dimension.

From 1961, Frankl served as a professor in the United States at the universities of Harvard, Stanford, Dallas, Pittsburg and San Diego. He continued to teach at the University of Vienna up to the age of 85 on a regular basis. He taught courses and conferences around the world. On September 2, 1997, Viktor Frankl died at the age of ninety-two in Vienna.

The face where the facial appears shows a portrait of Viktor Frankl. The other side focuses on the meaning of the theme, symbolized in the coin by a young girl who, lost in her thoughts with her eyes closed, holds a flower in her hand while leaning on a medallion, on which a bird flies in the center of a labyrinth.

Noi monede comemorative din Canada - 12.01.2019

Caboto's trip of 1497, and his reports of waters so full of fish that could be collected with a simple basket, led countless fishing boats to sail to the New World. Coming from Portugal, France, Spain and England, they joined the Indigenous Peoples who already knew very well the reward that could be found on the eastern shores of North America.

The currency that I present today is the second in a series dedicated to the History of Canada and refers to the Arrival of Europeans. Giovanni Caboto, Italian navigator, merchant and explorer is considered one of the first Europeans of modern times to arrive in 1497 to the continental part of North America. With him began the commercial exchange with the new world.

Canadian artist Alan Daniel has created an impressive visual narrative of a commercial exchange, where Micmac Indians row to meet a Portuguese ship caught in a summer storm on the coast of modern-day Nova Scotia. His canoe is full of skins and a man shakes an animal skin to indicate his desire to trade. The experience of the Micmac as sailors is reflected in their skilfully designed canoe, which has curved sides and high ends designed to avoid rough seas.

I think no one can doubt the great beauty of this gold coin, another issue is the price, 1,200 Canadian dollars, about 800 euros to change.

Data sheet

Face value: 200 Canadian dollars
Metal: Gold 999
Diameter: 29 mm
Weight: 15.43 g
Issue volume: 1,000

First of the series
As I said this is the second coin of the series, I leave you image and description of the first, which is also a true work of art and has the same characteristics.

The history of Canada extends for millennia, and this currency transports us in time to the First Peoples of Canada. The Algonquin people were one of the countless communities that existed in North America long before the Europeans arrived. These indigenous peoples lived in perfect harmony with nature, moving to the rhythm of the seasons to access new sources of food and find refuge from the treacherous climate suffered by the Great Lakes in winter.

Common obverse of the whole series

The Canadian artist Alan Daniel has created an impressive visual narrative of an Algonquian hunter who returns to his winter camp with a rabbit and an otter. Your community greets you with enthusiasm as these animals will provide food and precious materials to make clothing and tools, some of which may trade with other indigenous peoples next spring. Two descriptions of daily life are also included in this design: two men who fish in the ice and a woman who prepares an animal skin.

I hope you liked these coins as much as I did.

O nouă monedă comemorativă din Rusia - 12.01.2019

The city of St. Petersburg, formerly Leningrad, was considered the birthplace of the revolution and a symbol of Russian culture, if we add that during the Second World War there was located the only factory in the world that produced tanks, cars and armored trains. It was enough reason for Hitler to have it as one of his preferred targets. Between September 8, 1941 and January 27, 1944 the city was subjected to a blockade by Nazi Germany, costing the lives of more than 1.2 million people who perished mostly from starvation.

In January 1943 the blockade was broken, although it was not fully released until a year later. To celebrate the "75th anniversary of the total liberation of Leningrad from the Nazi blockade," the Bank of Russia issues a currency of 25 rubles on January 9, with liberal power in the country.

The reverse of the coin presents an image in relief of the monument The Broken Ring with the semicircular inscription: '75 -ЛЕТИЕ ПОЛНОГО ОСВОБОЖДЕНИЯ ЛЕНИНГРАДА ОТ ФАШИСТСКОЙ БЛОКАДЫ '(75th anniversary of the total liberation of Leningrad from the Nazi blockade).

The monument ' The Broken Ring ' dates back to the blockade of Leningrad when the only possibility of carrying supplies was through the Lake of Ladoga, covered by ice. This route was called ' the way of life ' . For many survivors those hard and terrible years the memorial ' The Broken Ring ' became the symbol of this road. Work of the sculptor Konstantin Simún contains two reinforced concrete coffers that symbolize the ring of the blockade and the rupture between them, ' The Way of Life '.

The obverse of the coin shows a relief image of the coat of arms of the Russian Federation, the inscription in a semicircle "РОССИЙСКАЯ ФЕДЕРАЦИЯ" (Russian Federation). Below the inscriptions in three lines: "БАНК РОССИИ" (Bank of Russia), the value of the currency "25 РУБЛЕЙ" (25 RUBLES), the year of issue "2019". The mint mark is shown on the right.

Characteristics of the currency

Alloy: Cupronickel
Diameter of the coin: 27 mm
Volume of issue: 5,000,000

The first of the three coins that celebrate the 825th anniversary of the Vienna Mint, composed of an ounce of silver, is dedicated to a key figure in the monetary history of Austria. A man whose legacy is still alive today, Duke Leopoldo V.

In 1191, two crusaders, Duke Leopold V of Austria and King of England Richard Heart of Lion, fought during the capture of the city of Acre. In December of 1192, on his way home from the Holy Land, Ricardo was arrested by Leopoldo on the outskirts of Vienna. Enclosed in the Castle of Dürnstein, the legend says that Ricardo was located by his troubadour Blondel, who traveled from castle to castle singing a song that only he and his teacher knew. The huge silver ransom, which Leopoldo managed to extort from the British in exchange for Ricardo's liberation, was used to found the original mint in Vienna in 1194. Leopold also used silver to build fortresses like Wiener Neustadt. Leopoldo's achievements helped Ostarrichi, as Austria was known, to become a great European power.

The coin shows the noble crusader Leopoldo V.

On the other side of the coin is Leopoldo V on horseback, based on his own personal stamp. The name of the issuing country "Republic of Austria", the year of issue "2019", the face value 1.5o euros "and the composition of the piece" 1 ounce of silver ", complete the field.

Despre World Money Fair 2019 - Catalog PDF - Informații - VIDEO - 12.01.2019

The most important event in the world on numismatics celebrates its 48th edition this year, between 1 and 3 February in Berlin, faithful to its appointment the World Money Fair or World Money Fair will open its doors to its more than 13,000 visitors, if we take into account figures from previous years. 60 Mint Houses from all continents and about 300 exhibitors. Due to the huge offer of present sellers, coming from all over Europe, it will be easier to acquire the coins we are looking for. This year the guest of honor will be the Austrian Mint, which in 2019 celebrates its 825th anniversary.

Collectors of 2 euro commemorative coins can be made with the first coins of the year. As usual, there are countries that make the celebration of the fair coincide with the issuance of some of their currencies. Surely you can get your face value, that of Germany for the 70th Anniversary of the German Bundesrat and that of France for the 30 Years of the fall of the Berlin Wall. From other countries we may be able to see a coin already coined, or its design unveiled, such as the one dedicated to the 60 Years of Asterix that will be issued by the Monnaie de Paris on April 28.

There will be many Mint Houses that present their 2019 programs. Of which we already have some information, it is the one corresponding to the FNMT. As you all know the commemorative 2 euro coin of Spain 2019 is dedicated, within the series, Unesco World Heritage sites, to the old city of Ávila
and its churches outside the walls, in which the Wall of Ávila is represented, a coin that It will be put into circulation, probably, a few days after the end of the fair.

The 30-euro coin will have as its theme the Bicentennial of the Prado Museum, in which the Las Meninas painting will be represented. We will also have six other collector coins dedicated to the same theme, three silver coins with a square and colored shape, and three gold coins. In all of them, paintings and sculptures located in the Prado will be represented.

This year the series "Numismatic Jewels" continues, in which coins from the House of Habsburg will be replicated. The series of coins of the European coinage program "Épocas de Europa " will be dedicated to the "Renaissance", as in the previous edition, a gold coin and a silver coin will be issued.

As a novelty, a silver coin dedicated to the V Centenary of Circumnavigation to the world will be issued
. This coin will be part of a collection of 4 pieces that will be issued during four years, one per year (2019-2022).

2019 marks the 50th anniversary of the arrival of man on the Moon, a fact for which the FNMT will issue, like a multitude of mints around the world, a silver coin to celebrate this event.

This year we will also complete the History of Navigation series, with the issuance of the remaining 16 coins.

Finally we will have the second coin of 1 kilo silver, with a subject still unknown.

During the fair the portfolio or euroset that each year the FNMT issues for the event will be put on sale, with the contents of the eight regular circulation coins and the commemorative 2 euros with the Muralla de Ávila.

As we said before, the Austrian Münzen Österreich will be the protagonist. This year has not yet provided any image of its acclaimed series of niobium coins that in 2019 will have as its theme "Artificial Intelligence", sure that during the event will be announced and sure also that as usual it will not disappoint anyone. What we can see is a video alluding to its 825 years of history where images of some of the emissions that we can acquire in the near future appear.

Another country that usually presents its Mint, is Hungary, of which I will certainly have to consider presenting some of its new issues for next year. In Berlin he will present his catalog with the numismatic program of emissions 2019 that you can see here , and that promises some very interesting pieces.

Also present will be the National Bank of the Republic of Kazakhstan, which will present, among others, a video showing the wonderful coins that are capable of coining.

Completing the information, I leave the Catalog of the World Money Fair 2019 PDF , which was published a few days ago. Although it is in English and German it is very interesting. Among other things there are interviews with heads of Mint Houses, which tell us about their future issues along with images of coins of great beauty.
