The National Bank of Bulgaria has been issuing since 2011 a series of coins under the name of "Medieval Bulgarian rulers". On September 17th, the fifth coin of this series dedicated to Ivan Asen II, czar of the Second Bulgarian Empire from 1218 to 1241, was issued. Until now, in general, the series had quite discreet designs, but that of This year I personally feel very beautiful.

The design of the reverse of the coin shows a cavalry of soldiers led by Tsar Ivan Asen II with the alliance treaty pierced by his spear. The inscriptions 'СРЕДНОВЕКОВНИ БЪЛГАРСКИ ВЛАДЕТЕЛИ' (Bulgarian Medieval Rules) and 'ЦАРИИА АСЕН II' (Zar Ivan Asen II) appear at the edge of the circle.

The obverse of the coin features a gold-plated medallion engraved with a seal by Tsar Ivan Asen II; the nominal value '10 ЛЕВА '(10 leva), the logo of the National Bank of Bulgaria with the year' 1879 'and the year of issue' 2018 '. In the upper semicircle the inscriptions 'БЪЛГАРСКА НАРОДНА БАНКА' (National Bank of Bulgaria) are shown.
