The Endangered Species series is a collection of coins created by the Portuguese Mint for the purpose of promoting awareness and preservation of endangered species of national fauna and flora, this year with the issuance of a coin, work of Catarina Sobral, dedicated to the Four Leaf Clover (Marsilea quadrifolia) a semi-aquatic plant species that covers mainly riparian areas, currently cataloged in critical condition and marked regression in Portugal, due to the alteration and destruction of its habitat.

Part of the income generated by this currency, put on sale today, September 19, is earmarked for an environmental fund designated by the Institute for the Conservation of Nature and Forests.

This coin with facial of 5 euros can be obtained in two versions with the same design. One coined in silver with Proof quality, where the leaves of the clovers appear colored, and another one in cupronickel that can be obtained at its face value in Portugal.

The reverse side of the coin represents a set of clovers in the foreground, the legend "TREVO DE 4 FOLHAS" on the left, and on the right "CATARINA SOBRAL- INCM", name of the author and the Mint of Portugal.
