The penultimate half-balboa coin of the series "Monumental Historical Set of Panama Viejo", dedicated to the "Convent of San Francisco" has been put into circulation today August 15 in Panama.

Panama La Vieja is the name given to the architectural vestiges of the Historical Monumental Complex of the first Spanish city, founded on the Pacific coast of America on August 15, 1519 by Pedro Arias de Dávila.

In 2019 500 years of its foundation are fulfilled, for this reason from 2003 to 2019 a series of circulating coins allusive to this event is issued.

The minting of 3 million coins has been authorized for this piece. These represent an element of historical memory of the buildings and periods that played a fundamental role in Panama La Vieja, which was declared by the United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization (UNESCO), as Historical Heritage of the Humanity in 2003.

The obverse shows, in the outline, on the upper part of the coin, the inscriptions "Convent of San Francisco" and "Panama Viejo", in the center a representative image of the Convent, while in the lower part the year of minting appears in figures "2018".

On the reverse side of the coin is the coat of arms of the Republic of Panama; in the upper contour the phrase "Republic of Panama" is read, and in the lower contour the value of the coin is read in letters: "Half balboa".
