"If a dog or a horse is considered as man's best friend, the Lithuanian bloodhound and žemaitukas horses could be called companions of the Lithuanian people. By issuing this collectible coin, we pay tribute to the traditional Lithuanian races, which are unfortunately being extinguished, "said Vitas Vasiliauskas, President of the Board of the Bank of Lithuania in the presentation of a new currency that has two versions for the same design.

This new numismatic issue fits the pocket of any type of collector, one for the most demanding, or wealthy, has a face of 10 € and is minted in silver. The other, without renouncing the same design, has a facial of 1.5 €, is coined on a copper-nickel alloy, and most importantly, with a sale price in the Lithuanian Banks of only 3 euros.

The reverse of the coin shows a žemaitukas horse and two Lithuanian bloodhounds next to their names in Lithuanian.

The two races are among the oldest not only in Lithuania, but also in the world. At present Lithuania has about 500 registered purebred žemaitukai and 200 Lithuanian bloodhounds.

The obverse shows the knight mounted on horseback, present on the coat of arms of the country, the name of the country LIETUVA, the year of issue 2017, the face value 1.50 € and the mint mark.
