The Mint of Finland has presented a new series of coins with facials of 5 euros and bimetálicas denominated "Decades of Independence", pieces that narrate the history of Finland from when it obtained its independence in 1918 through its achievements and of the Difficulties overcome by the centenary of its independence. A total of five coins make up the collection that will be issued between 2017 and 2019.

The first to be issued, next May 4, covers the years 1917 to 1939.

The obverse of the coin recalls the brief but hard civil war of 1918. Finland declared its independence that same year and the country underwent a brief but bitter civil war, that shook its political scene for years.

The Finnish Civil War was part of the socialist and nationalist chaos that occurred in Europe at the end of the First World War. It took place between 27 January and 15 May 1918. On one side were the social-democratic forces, led by the popular delegation of Finland, commonly known as "reds." On the other side were the Senate forces, controlled from the previous fall by the Conservatives, who sought to maintain the status quo ; That is, to preserve independence and the constitutional monarchy without parliamentarism, popularly known as "whites." The Reds were aided by Bolshevik Russia, while the Whites were militarily supported by the Second German Empire.

The reverse represents the tower of the Olympic Stadium of Helsinki inaugurated in 1938.

It was opened to the public in June 1938, although its construction was in mind since the mid-1920s. It is the largest stadium in the whole country and has been described as the most beautiful stadium in the world, by the design of its construction, That was in charge of the architects Yrjö Lindegren and Toivo Jäntti. In 1952 the Olympic Games of Helsinki were celebrated.

The construction of the stadium began in 1934 and was completed in 1938. It was renovated in 1990-1994, and was completely modernized for the 2005 Athletics World Cups. At the 1952 Olympic Games, the stadium had a capacity of 70,000 spectators; Nowadays it has a capacity for 40,600 people.
