Monede deosebite româneşti în licitaţiile Heritage Auctions - 24.12.2016

1. Carol I Leu 1881-V MS67 NGC, Vienna mint, KM14, Stamb-21. One-year type. Extreme quality for the issue that almost certainly assures it of finest extant status, with silky luster over minimally toned surfaces on the obverse and a dappled mixture of patina on the reverse. A true marvel survivor, and as the finest graded example by several point at NGC and PCGS, a coin that is sure to attract even further attention. Ex. R.L. Lissner Collection

2. Carol I silver Matte Proof Pattern 5 Lei (1906) PR65 NGC, Brussels mint, KM-Pn150, Stamb-058-1.1. By A. Michaux. Struck for the 40th anniversary of the reign of Carol I. Moderate gray tone is visible on both sides, with subtlety contrasting patina around the raised surfaces and the peripheral denticles. Nearly pristine with a few light grazes that blend with the granular surfaces. Easily among the finest known. Ex. Demarete Collection (also known as Clain-Stefanelli Collection)

3. Carol I silver Obverse Trial Matte Proof Pattern 5 Lei ND (1906) PR63 NGC, Brussels mint, Stamb-059-1.1. By A. Michaux. Moderate gray colored with granularity typical of the issue on both sides. A small area of what appears to be corrosion appears on the reverse, and some iridescence (not as apparent as is the accompanying image) is observed when inspected beneath a light. Undoubtedly very rare as a type. Ex. Demarete Collection (also known as Clain-Stefanelli Collection)

4. Carol I gold 100 Lei 1906 MS62 NGC, Brussels mint, KM40, Fr-4, Stamb-067. A beautiful commemorative gold type, struck for the 40th year of the reign for Carol. On the present piece, considerable prooflike gleam, characteristic of strikings from a fresh die, remains apparent, with the minor surface ticks that so often accompany this issue scattered about. From a mintage of only 3,000 and especially demanded at this very scarce Mint State grade.

5. Ferdinand I gold 20 Lei 1922 MS63 PCGS, Brussels mint, KM-XM1, Fr-10. Commemorating his coronation. A fairly rare type, this exceptionally choice piece exhibits a pleasing degree of luster and a warm, light golden-orange tone.

6. Ferdinand I gold 50 Lei 1922 MS62+ NGC, KM-XM3, Fr-11. An immense example that commemorates the coronation of Ferdinand I, presenting large, intricately styled design illustrations and lustrous, citrus-gold coloration. The devices on this issue express a flattened appearance, even when fully-struck, and the surrounding fields contain a scattering of micro-surface abrasions that are fairly commonplace for the type. Rarely offered in the marketplace, and particularly choice in this desired certified quality.

11. Carol I gold 100 Lei 1906 MS62 PCGS, Brussels mint, KM40, Fr-4. Commemorating the 40th anniversary of Carol's reign. A rare and popular type, boasting a mintage of just 3,000 pieces, this type is very difficult to encounter in grades of mint state such as this example. However, some scattered hairlines, along with a few noticeable scratches, emanating from the upper lip of Carol's younger portrait, are noted for completeness. Ex. Hammel Collection (Stack's, September 1982, lot 577 w/ includes ticket)

12. Ferdinand I gold 100 Lei 1922 (1928/9) MS62 NGC, London mint, KMX-M4, Fr-9, Stamb-085. Though dated 1922, this coin was actually struck in 1928/9 (after Ferdinand's death, in fact), in accordance with the 1927 decree to celebrate the 5th anniversary of him being crowned King of Romania. A few scattered handling marks throughout, but quite pleasant when held in hand with no magnification, with good luster and original surfaces.
